Professor Guy Littlefair has been appointed by Auckland University of Technology (AUT) as the new Dean of its Faculty of Design and Creative Technologies (DCT) and Pro-Vice Chancellor. He will take up the position in July 2017.
Described by peers as an academic leader who ‘just gets things done while keeping an eye on vision and strategy’, Guy has an academic career spanning universities in New Zealand, Australia and the UK as well as industry research experience in the private and public sector.
In his current role as Pro Vice-Chancellor, Industry and Strategic Partnerships at Deakin University, he has led a strengthening of university’s key partnerships to support research, teaching and to benefit to the communities the University serves.
Prior to this, Guy was Dean of Engineering and Head of School at Deakin from 2011 to 2016 and during this time spent an extended period as Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor, Faculty of Science and Technology.
Deakin describes Guy as the “visionary architect” of the $55million Centre for Advanced Design in Engineering Training (CADET) and an expert in the field of manufacturing. He is no stranger to AUT having served in various leadership roles in the Engineering School from 2006 to 2011.
Academic and research leadership are his top priorities for the Faculty, and Guy is looking forward to leading DCT’s next stage of development.
“Teaching and research that produces graduates with the skills to take and shape the jobs of tomorrow is key to the continuing success of AUT’s Design and Creative Technologies Faculty and I look forward to working with colleagues to deliver this,” he said.
