AUT 2018 domestic and international fees
To continue delivering a quality education experience to students, the Auckland University of Technology (AUT) Council has confirmed that for 2018, tuition fees will increase by 2%. This is for new domestic students, and for domestic and international students currently enrolled in a programme.

To continue delivering a quality education experience to students, the Auckland University of Technology (AUT) Council has confirmed that for 2018, tuition fees will increase by 2%. This is for new domestic students, and for domestic and international students currently enrolled in a programme.

For most full time undergraduate domestic and currently enrolled international students, this increase equates to an additional $120 for the year.

For international students enrolling in a programme for the first time, tuition fees will increase by 4%, except in undergraduate engineering programmes where the fee will increase by 2%.

Compulsory Student Services Fees and the Building Levy are both paid in addition to the tuition fee and these will increase by 2% to $627.10 and $69.60 per year for a full time student. This increase reflects the costs related to providing necessary non-tuition services across the university. AUT’s Student Services fee is still one of the lowest in New Zealand and well below the average of other New Zealand universities. The Building Levy, in place since 2009, is to support the development of recreation facilities at all our campuses.

AUT’s Vice Chancellor Derek McCormack notes that AUT continues to be the most efficient university in the country in terms of cost provision per equivalent full-time student, and this leaves the university with little room to reduce expenditure.

“The Council considered a wide range of factors including university cost increases, changes to government regulations and funding, changes in international exchange rates, fees at other universities, and the impact on students when setting the 2018 fees.”

AUT will continue to offer some nil-fee courses in Te Reo for both domestic and international students to encourage and support the study of Māori language.
