Professor of Economics Gail Pacheco has been appointed Equal Employment Opportunities Commissioner, Te Kāhui Tika Tangata Human Rights Commission.
A member of the AUT Business School for 23 years and director of AUT NZ Policy Research Centre for the past decade, Gail was a recipient of the NZIER Economics Award in 2018 for outstanding contributions to the advancement of economics and its applications in NZ; and awarded the 2019 University Medal in recognition of sustained and exceptional academic achievement.
A former Commissioner at the NZ Productivity Commission, Gail has written and researched widely on numerous social policy issues. She takes up the new role in November 2024.
