Associate Professor Christina Milligan (Ngāti Porou) – who lectures and supervises students in screen production and screenwriting in AUT’s School of Communication Studies – executive produced Ka Whawhai Tonu, a feature film in te reo Māori that is in cinemas now.
Set in New Zealand in 1864, Ka Whawhai Tonu follows the story of a crucial conflict of the nation's first land warfare, fought between Māori and colonial soldiers against insurmountable odds.
