Master of Arts alumna Melissa Derby, of Ngāti Ranginui descent, has been awarded a Fulbright-Ngā Pae o Te Māramatanga Graduate Award. Her research will focus on race, ethnicity and indigeneity.
The US$39,000 scholarship will enable Melissa to study at Colorado State University and San Diego University for 10 months.
The Fulbright-Ngā Pae o Te Māramatanga Graduate Award is awarded to New Zealand researchers making an impact in the area of indigenous development research. Approximately eight awards are granted annually, for up to one year of study or research in the US.
