Student-led sustainability group the Future Proofers are encouraging AUT staff and students to come together and play their part in cleaning up our beaches.

In support of Seaweek 2019, Hirepool, Fishing & Adventure and Sustainable Coastlines are getting together for a beach clean-up of Taumanu Reserve on Saturday 9 March, and the Future Proofers are organising a group of AUT staff and students to attend.

The Future Proofers work on events and projects around sustainability and aim to get behind initiatives that make AUT and the world more sustainable.

Bachelor of Science student and Future Proofer Sahmay Ellis says getting involved with events like beach clean ups is important as environmental issues affect everyone. “If you want the generations after us to enjoy what we’ve enjoyed, there’s many small changes we need to make in our day to day life. If everyone can do that, it can have a huge impact,” she said.
