AUT University represented the New Zealand education sector yesterday at the launch of the New Zealand Story initiative. AUT’s Vice Chancellor Derek McCormack spoke alongside Prime Minister Rt Hon John Key and Minister for Economic Development Hon Steven Joyce about the importance of increasing New Zealand’s reputation overseas. AUT was involved in developing the educational aspects of the New Zealand Story.

Recognising excellence in teaching and research
Last night AUT held the second annual Vice Chancellor’s Awards for Academic Excellence in Research and Teaching, celebrating staff that have excelled in their contribution to AUT. The inaugural AUT University Medal was presented by the Minister for Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment, Hon Steven Joyce, to Professor Welby Ings from the School of Art and Design. The University Medal is AUT’s pre-eminent academic award and was presented to Professor Ings in recognition of his sustained and outstanding contribution to AUT.

Employees who telework one to three days per week – so-called ‘hybrid teleworkers’ - are more productive than workers who do little or no telework, according to a new study jointly undertaken between AUT University’s NZ Work Research Institute and the University of Melbourne’s Institute for a Broadband-Enabled Society, and commissioned by Cisco.

Stroke, a condition traditionally associated with old age, is increasingly affecting young and middle aged people, according to a major new analysis led by AUT University.
