AUT has had its most successful Best Awards night yet.
The Best Awards are the country’s top Design awards and were held in Auckland on Friday 14th October.
World Mental Health Day event explores psychological first-aid
World Mental Health Day (WMHD) was celebrated on Monday 10 October with a thought-provoking event at AUT’s North Campus.
The event focussed on the WMHD 2016 theme of psychological and mental health first-aid, highlighting the fact that we each have a role to play in the health of our social networks. A panel of industry-leading speakers talked about how to provide effective psychological first-aid, and the current climate of mental health in New Zealand.
New Zealanders increasingly live, work and play in human-built environments. Over 80% of our population lives in urban areas. For most of us, our food comes via supermarkets instead of growing our own, and we spend increasing amounts of time indoors – at home and at work. Conversely, we are seeing growing rates of mental health issues in our people. More and more of us seem to be struggling to live healthy and fulfilling lives, content with who we are and how we are living.

The Resilient Slip-Friction Joint (RSFJ) was designed by Structural Engineering lecturer Dr Pouyan Zarnani with two members of Auckland University’s Civil and Environmental Engineering department when he was a post-doctoral fellow there.
