Why I chose to come to AUT in New Zealand:

Honestly, it was just a feeling and I went through with it. Not regretting it at all. I trust my intuition, my instinct a lot. It feels really good to have that faith in it.

What I enjoyed most about spending a semester in New Zealand:

All the people I've met (who also became my friends and some even really close ones) and things I've done like hiking and being in the stunning nature of New Zealand, dancing salsa, playing basketball, going out with my friends, having a coffee (IVLO – Iced Vanilla Latte with Oatmilk), taking a walk (walk and talk with Natasha) or run, participate in the events at AUT or my accommodation (shoutouts to all the residential assistants, big love!), learning Spanish with Pietro and Rafael (so much fun!), the study and yoga Fridays with Julia, and so much more…

How I found learning in a different academic system:

It was really cool to witness this different style and approaches. It helped a lot to use all the facilities the university had to offer like the library. Maybe you can also find other students to study together. I personally believe the vibe in a library helps a lot to improve my focus on studying.

And talking about problems or simply how you perceive the studying part with other students or friends is very helpful.

What I gained from my time in Auckland:

Friends from all over the world (can't wait to meet you again!), wonderful experiences, a focus shift of my mindset and new perspectives.

Top tips for other students

  1. Living in student accommodation is super helpful, especially if you participate in those events they organise for you. Bonus: free food – but please don't just go for the free food and run off… Socialise (if you feel like it)
  2. Join clubs or just go to activities like salsa, yoga, all the sports events in the recreation centre. Most of them are free. Use these opportunities
  3. I just swung budgeting so I might not be the best to give advice about it, but keep account of your money and set limits per week
  4. Go up all the hills and mountains like Mount Eden or One Tree Hill, and the islands (Waiheke for example)
  5. OMG get a Cookie from Mrs. Higgins! Red velvet was my favourite
  6. If you’re into movies don’t miss the Academy Cinemas on Wednesday for $5! (sing along versions are bomb!)
  7. But most importantly, just do whatever YOU like and do it. Everything else will come naturally, don't worry :)
  8. Study Abroad on your own can be very challenging especially mentally. So, I'd always recommend talking to someone about any issues that arise. This alone will help a lot
