Marcel Bastiaansen (Netherlands)

Professor, co-founder & director Breda University of Applied Sciences Experience Lab

Prof. Dr. Marcel Bastiaansen has a background in Experimental Psychology (MSc), and in Cognitive Neuroscience (PhD). He joined Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas) in 2013, and focused his research agenda on Leisure and Tourism. In 2021 he was appointed full professor in Leisure and Tourism Experience.

Marcel co-founded and directs BUas’ Experience Lab, which does both fundamental and applied research on the role of emotions in leisure, tourism and hospitality experiences, using methods borrowed from psychology and neuroscience. Specifically, Marcel’s research addresses how leisure and tourism experiences relate to well-being and quality of life.
