AUT’s progress towards the Disability Action Plan

We’ve been doing some behind-the-scenes work to prepare for the implementation of the Disability Action Plan. These include:

Become disability confident

  • We’ve updated the Disability Support Services information on our student website
  • We’re updating staff disability resources
  • We’re updating practice guides, graduation materials, campus safety, and employability and careers

Implement inclusive policies and practices

  • We’re reviewing our approach to collating disability data. This includes proposed updates to the terms and language we use, based on feedback we received during the Disability Action Plan development. We’ll check these again with our students and staff before making any  changes
  • We’re developing a response to specific items included in the Disability Action Plan feedback, building on positive feedback and addressing several areas identified for improvement
  • We’re updating resources and contacts for other student support services, recognising the intersectional experience of many students

Improve accessibility in learning and teaching

  • We’re investigating accreditation opportunities, including the Sunflower Hidden Disabilities programme
