American company, Emergent Technologies, Inc has signed a deal to commercialise a novel technology platform (Btechnology) invented by award winning AUT University scientist Professor Stephen Henry. The agreement between Emergent Technologies, a leading innovation solutions company and KODE Biotech, Ltd has the potential to generate five to 10 million dollars in annual licensing fees.

AUT University’s School of Communication Studies and University of Canterbury’s School of Social and political sciences have recently received a $350,000 (NZD) EU-NZ grant to enable their honours students to participate in a three year mobility project with European institutions.

Eight AUT Bachelor of Design (fashion) graduates have been named as finalists in the iD International Emerging Designers Awards.

Sara Andrews, Petra Benton, Charlotte Cho, Sohong Lim,  Monique Lynch, Richard McCoy, Fraser Mildon and Bay Rawlinson all completed their studies with AUT in 2012 and have been named as finalists in the awards.

New Zealand’s universities are currently educating more than 7000 equivalent full time engineering students. The Institute of Professional Engineers of New Zealand’s recent report indicates an additional 2000 more engineering graduates will be needed to support an innovation-led economy. The Budget 2012 allocated an additional $42 million for this purpose. Therefore AUT has increased its engineering student intake for next year by nearly 10%.
