The mission of People and Culture at AUT is to empower our people to make AUT a place where people love to work and learn. Our staff have roles that are unique, challenging and complex – as a large university, AUT employs a wide range of diverse people who work across a variety of workplaces. Our focus is on embedding behaviours and skills that define the expectations of AUT's people: everything we do is about creating the best employee experience possible for AUT staff.
We have around 45 staff spread across five teams within People and Culture who engage collaboratively with each other to support AUT’s staff.

Our Employment Relations team provides employment relations and industrial relations strategies to support a sustainable, agile and high-achieving workforce. The academic workforce is highly unionised; their union being well-resourced and litigious, resulting in high levels of interaction with the Employment Relations team and considerable support required for university management at both strategic and operational levels.
We guide and support People and Culture and the wider University in all employment related matters.
